How many words does JLPT Cards cover?
1,900+ JLPT N5 to N1 words across 20 topics, each with its kana reading, romaji and English meaning.
Should I learn hiragana or katakana first?
Hiragana first. It's used for native Japanese words and grammar, so you'll see it in almost every sentence. Katakana, used mainly for loanwords, is quicker to pick up once hiragana feels automatic.
Which JLPT level should I start with?
Start with N5, the beginner level. Once you know the kana, the N5 vocabulary covers everyday basics like numbers, days, food and common verbs, and each level after that builds on the one before.
